Swimsuit Season on a Student Budget

Is anyone else a feeling fed up of this miserable British weather? I certainly am but as summer draws closer, so do the words ‘bikini body’ – yikes. So to help you prepare for a healthy, happy summer I have come up with The 5 S’s which should help you reach your summer body goals without blowing your budget.


1. Sipping water

Did you know that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated? Scary huh? Not only is water amazing for your skin, aids digestion and increases your energy – it also curbs your appetite, meaning more control over your portions. Try to drink at least 4 pints of the stuff a day.

2. Seasonal veg

Seasonal veg is good for the environment as well as your pocket because it’s usually priced a bit lower than out of season food. Locally sourced food, or even better home grown food means you’re reducing the number of miles veg is travelling to your plate, essentially reducing your carbon footprint. 3. Swimming

Swimming is an activity that doesn’t really feel like exercise because it’s just so much fun. It’s great for your body as it burns calories, works all the major muscle groups and lowers blood pressure – meaning a slimmer, healthier figure. Many gyms and clubs offer student discount so there’s no reason not to go.

4. Salad

Whoever said salad was boring was wrong. There’s a million and one things you can do with a salad so mix things up to keep them interesting. Why not try a colour-cordinated salad or add some fruit to your leaves for a refreshing twist. If you’re worried about not staying full after a salad, accompany it with some Kallø rice cakes.

5. Saving

Hopefully your bank account still has a little of your student loan left in it, and after a busy year of lectures, assignments and shopping at Aldi – you deserve to have a fun filled summer. So save some funds for a holiday or a festival and show off that bikini body!
